About Our Holidays

About Our Holidays
Walk Yorkshire self guided walking holidays have been carefully selected to discover the finest scenery and the most pleasant places within the North York Moors. The breaks are structured so you go at your own pace, take detours to places of interest, and have a break when and where you wish. Our routes will provide plenty of opportunities to take refreshments and at the end of each day a relaxing place to spend the night.

We will provide maps and detailed route descriptors highlighting any attractions to take in on the way. If you are booking a long distance self guided walk we will provide a luggage service each day to allow you to move about as lightly as possible. We will always be there to provide assistance if you require or need our help.
All our holidays are based in one location to avoid unnecessary upheaval each day, or if you opt for a long distance trail like the Cleveland Way, Tabular Hills or the Lyke Wake Walk we book all the accommodation, move your luggage and provide detailed waterproof maps and guidance of the route.

Where You Will Stay
Whether you are staying at one place or moving each day there is nothing more welcoming than good hospitality, locally sourced food and a comfortable bed. Over many years working on the North York Moors we have found many special places for you to stay. Our “Staying at one place” breaks are based in specially selected country house hotels offering a high standard of accommodation and impeccable service.

All our self guided walking breaks include bed and breakfast, evening meals are not included allowing you the freedom to choose and make your own arrangements. All our accommodation is in quaint country villages or towns with a variety of places to eat in the evening, we can also guide you to many of the recommended eating houses in the vicinity. On the long trails we have a portfolio of highly recommended Farmhouse B&B’s, Public House accommodation and guesthouses to choose from.

About our walking routes
All our walks are individually selected for their outstanding beauty or places of historical or other interesting features (or both). All routes are along well marked footpaths and bridleways, or individually waymarked like the Cleveland Way and the Tabular Hills trail.  Each group will receive an information pack with a waterproof Ordnance Survey Explorer map and other information relating to places of interest, café’s, teashops and public Houses on or nearby the walking route.

Fitness
You will not need to be super fit to enjoy our walking holidays, they are designed to be pleasurable, therapeutic and above all enjoyable. You can take the entire day to complete the walk, and if you’re new to walking most of the routes from our static locations are all gentle to moderate and suitable for all ages and abilities. However, if you are thinking of a walking break it will help to do some pre-holiday walking if possible.

Families and Children
To engage on a family walking holiday in the UK can make for an idyllic and happy occasion providing the younger members of the family are considered when planning distances to be walked. Many of the identified walks are manageable by older children but we will advise if asked to do so. We highly recommend the stay in one place holidays for families with younger children which gives you the option to either walk or go sightseeing on a particular day. We do operate a reduced rate policy for children on all our holidays, please feel free to contact us regarding suitability and what might suit your family best.

Support
On all our holidays we will be at the venue to meet you on arrival and answer any questions you may have about the holiday and daily arrangements. If a particular walking route requires you are picked up at the end of the day then this will be discussed with you and we will be waiting at the pre-arranged location to ferry you back to the hotel on completion of the days walk.
For the long distance walks we will transport your luggage to the next destination, allowing you to travel light with the basic requirements for the days walk. In case of any emergency you will be able to contact us and you will have the mobile number for the on duty Walk Yorkshire guide.

Tailor made holidays or larger group bookings
Walk Yorkshire holidays will always remain flexible to your needs and although we offer a wide and varied range of locations and walking routes we are very happy to find exactly what you are looking for. We have arranged many such breaks primarily for foreign visitors travelling as a bigger group. All our stay in one place venue’s are capable of catering for larger groups and we can offer very competitive rates for such occasions.

What is included in the price?
All our holiday prices are based on 2 people sharing, most hotels and other accommodation do charge extra for single occupancy and therefore we do need to charge for this supplement, however, several of our hotels have a single occupancy tariff so we can advise on this during the enquiry and booking stage.

Discounts
The hotels that provide a base for our stay in one place walking holidays offer slightly different rates, this information can be made available when booking your holiday.
